How Mom's Feeling: I'm feeling good. We finished up the school year, and I'm on week 2 of summer. I had my first week off, and this week I'm teaching an afternoon cooking class.

Lorelei is really becoming her own little person, with her own very distinct personality--which is fun to watch. This month she experienced jealousy for the first time--she threw blocks and tried to fork her cousin. But she also is learning how to play with others. Just this weekend, she played ball with another child. She's playing chase and hide and seek, and is even doing some pretend play with her tea set and food.

Lorelei's sign language has really taken off this month. It seems like she's learning one or two new signs a week. It's also clear that she's understanding so much more. She can follow one step directions and wants to be a helper. She can put her toys away (as long as there aren't too many of them), can close the lid to the soap in the dish washer and push the buttons on the dishwasher (with help), will move or come when I call her (most of the time), and will pick out her own pajamas. We're working on brushing teeth. She tries to put her own clothes on (even though she's already wearing clothes. And we've ordered her new toilet seat with a potty training book. While I don't think she's quite ready to potty train yet, I want her to get used to seeing and sitting on the potty.

Mostly though, it's amazing to see her become more of a little girl than a baby.

Pics of Our Week

This week was amazing and busy and crazy fun. We started the week off right with a trip to the beach and Lorelei's buddy Grady's 2nd birthday party--where we spent 99% of the time in the pool, followed with a chill (and chilly) Father's Day with a walk around the dog park. We followed that up with my first free week of summer break...commence the excitement! This week, we went on a few playdates, visited the library, checked out indoor play area Diddaloo, had a tea party, got a haircut, went berry picking and spent the afternoon at the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park. Whew! That was a lot.

Last summer I got to spend some time being a stay at home mom with Lorelei as a baby. Doing the stay at home mom thing with a toddler is way different, very tiring but so much fun. One thing I learned this week was that there is a reason you don't schedule something for every single day! A) it's totally exhausting. I had to take a nap Wednesday afternoon! B) things (like laundry, dishes, etc.) get totally backed up.

Friday also reminded me how great it is to be so close to San Francisco. Normally, an afternoon in Golden Gate Park would have been an EVENT. We would have had to worry about lunch and naptimes and the like. Friday was so chill. We spent the morning finger painting (ok, so more like EATING the finger paint--it was just flour, water and food coloring, after all!), then Lorelei took a nap while I did some laundry. After her nap and some lunch, we hopped in the car, explored the Conservatory of Flowers (they had a butterfly exhibit that Lorelei just loved), listened to some live music, played in some dirt and had an ice cream cone. We came home, Lorelei took a nap and I made dinner. Easy peasy. Pretty sure we will be enjoying a few more trips to Golden Gate Park this summer!

Digging in the sand is our new favorite thing!

Pics of Our Week--San Diego

So this weekend, Lorelei and I hopped on a plane to spend a few days in San Diego. We helped Brian's aunt Susan clean out some books in her classroom, spent time with family and went to the San Diego Zoo. The flight there was...challenging. We got through okay, ate some fro-yo while waiting for our flight. But the roughest part, for sure, was the ride itself. Mercifully, we had some very kind and patient rowmates. Lorelei didn't fuss or cry, she just wanted to touch everything and didn't want to be restrained AT ALL. It was a very long hour and 15 minutes!

Once in San Diego, we had a blast. Of course, Lorelei had to deal with something completely new to her: competition and jealousy! She had to share her BeeBee and Poppy (and toys) with her cousin Logan. Logan was a champ and didn't seem to mind too much. Lorelei...well, Lorelei was not. There were some blocks thrown, some timeout was had, and an attempted forking. Mostly though, she did great.

The zoo was, as usual, amazing. We met up with some of Melissa's mommy friends and had tons of fun. Big hits of the day: the giraffe (Lorelei didn't want to leave!), the koalas (so cute and they had BABIES!), and of course the goats!

The drive home from San Diego was long and exhausting, especially for a little girl not used to riding in a car with someone next to her. She definitely didn't get much sleep on the drive back!
